Why do we let the size of our clothes matter so much?
Why do we let the size of our clothes matter so much? At L-Fit Glasgow Personal Training, initially a goal for many ladies is dropping a dress size or to achieve a particular dress size.
Imagine if you went shopping and the assistant looked at your size, shape, colouring and just selected some clothes. They had no labels and you basically tried them on and purchased them based purely on fit, look and feel. How much better would this shopping experience be!!
I am not preaching here I have danced about a changing room when a size 10 pair of jeans have fitted perfectly and I have walked around in hot weather in dark old clothes as I have refused to buy anything new until I have lost weight. That is when it finally clicked for me. In fact, it actual took for my mum to buy me some light trousers and a few tops from Primark as she was sick of seeing me in old horrible dark clothes in the middle of summer. The clothes were nothing special but I finally felt better about myself and that actually massively helped! The better you feel about yourself the more likely you are to make good decisions that benefit you!!
Another reason this is so crazy is that we know that sizing in shops is completely different!! You know the shops that are generous in sizing and the shops not to go near when you don’t feel at your best so logically, we know that sizing is completely inaccurate and yet it can put us off buying a piece of clothing if it means we go up a size!!!
The lighter nights are starting to come in, we are seeing the sun peeking through the clouds and are finally due to get some freedom very soon YAY!!
This is all exciting stuff that we really should be happy about, however some of us are full of dread at the thought of trying our spring/summer clothes on. It’s time… go for it and if they are uncomfortable or just far too tight that’s ok. This year has been tough!! Give yourself a break. If this has confirmed what you already knew and you have not been happy about the weight that you have put on. Let’s do something about it but first things first buy a bigger size now!!
Do not underestimate the difference an outfit can make. You will have heard the saying ‘Dress for the job you want’. It’s all linked to the mindset feeling good about yourself and how you look can be achieved at any size and the better you feel the more likely you are to make positive change. Go watch ‘I feel pretty’ to that just remind you how much we can be holding ourselves back and it’s all in our own head.
You don’t need to break the bank, go to shops that are affordable or if you do purchase an expensive piece its likely you can sell this when it’s too big for you. When has anyone ever said to you, wow those jeans are lovely they must be a size 8? No, they will say they are a lovely fit, colour, your bum looks amazing in them etc. Let’s not like the size you wear effect your happiness now. We have missed out in so much this year!
Absolutely set a goal and work towards it, dance around that changing room at the progress you have made but not because you can finally buy some clothes!! The most sustainable changes are the ones we enjoy and feel instantly successful at. If you would like some coaching to help get you started get in touch with L-Fit Glasgow Personal Training.
