Controlling The Controllable
Happy New Year from L-Fit Glasgow Personal Training!!! We have finally said goodbye to 2020 and hope this year is better!! However, we are back in lockdown, many of us uncertain about our careers, back homeschooling and trying to entertain the kids and keep a little bit of sanity!!!
One positive this time is, we have a vaccine and soon we will be able to start getting back to some sort of normality. This is great but with no clear end date, a lot of us are feeling overwhelmed, stressed, anxious and even burned out. One way to help is to start to focus on what is within your control rather than what is out with your control!
I am someone who loves New Year and all that it promises, the new diary and the exciting feeling of a brand new year to make your dreams a reality!! This year was different, this year I was sleeping by two minutes past twelve, not a single resolution and reacted like a victim, just waiting to hear what restrictions Nicola would enforce on Glasgow Personal Trainers telling myself then I will start thinking about what to do!!
Did the announcements give me the focus I was longing for? No!!!! There is still a great deal of uncertainty and this isn’t going away any time soon. Its time I focus on what I can control and what Nicola says next is not one of them.
This goes for us all!! If you are feeling overwhelmed part of the issue may be that you are wasting time and energy focusing on stuff that you have no control over. Grab a pen and piece of paper take the subject that is causing you the most stress and write down what is and isn’t within your control and then focus on what is!!! It could be home working, homeschooling or the house and remember it’s what YOU are in control of and other people – how they behave, act and feel are not something that you can control!
One of the things I can control at L-fit Glasgow Personal Training is helping others get healthy, happier and fitter and I wouldn’t be doing my job if I didn’t also remind you that YOU can control the following:
Nutrition – Improving your diet, has many benefits it can boost your immune system, improve your mood and energy levels. A lot of us have turned to food for comfort during the pandemic and see this as one of the very few pleasures we still have. If however you’re tired and sluggish all the time and planning some big diet when this is all over. Why not start making some small changes like adding in more fruit and veggie, drinking 2 litres of water or only have one snack per day. You will thank me later!! If you are needing more support than this, please get in touch at L-Fit Glasgow Personal Training we will work with you to identify the right changes for your lifestyle.
Movement – It’s cold, it’s dark, it’s wet!! I know but you will feel so much better if you aim to get out daily in the fresh air and move. I will let you off if it’s icy but other than that, there is no such thing as bad weather only bad clothing. Still aim for your 10,000 steps. There are loads of ways to move and plenty of online offerings you can do while in lockdown, find something you enjoy and get moving. Resistance training has so many benefits and at L-Fit Personal Training Glasgow we have adapted and can deliver this service in an outdoor environment keeping you safe and helping to improve your health at a crucial time.
Alcohol – How is dry January going? If you are struggling with sleep or depression the chances are any amount of alcohol is not helping. Why not cut it out for a few weeks and see how you feel.
Self -Care – Place your mask on first before helping others. Aim to have 15 minutes every day just for you.
Social Media- How long you spend, the influence it has on you, who you follow, it’s all within your control. Is your current relationship with social media serving you? If not, you have the control to change it!!!
Just now is tough! How you react to the situation however is within your control!!! If you would like L-Fit Personal Training Glasgow to help you gain control get in touch.
